Is the RAM Crisis Finally Easing?

Is the RAM Crisis Finally Easing?

If you’ve been hearing about a “RAM crisis” and wondering what’s going on — you’re not alone. We posted an article at the end of last year regarding this.

Over the past year or so, the cost of computer memory (RAM) has shot up dramatically. But recently, there are signs things might be starting to calm down.

So… is it actually getting better?

What’s Happening Right Now

There are early signs that the situation is improving — at least a little.

  • Some types of RAM have dropped in price by around 10–20% compared to their peak
  • Others have stopped rising and are now staying roughly the same price
  • Overall, the market has shifted from rapid increases to a more stable position

That’s good news — because just months ago, prices were climbing fast with no sign of slowing.

Why RAM Prices Went Up So Much

The main reason is surprisingly simple:

Big tech companies are buying huge amounts of memory for AI systems.

This caused:

  • Demand to surge massively
  • Supply to get stretched
  • Prices to rise by as much as 200–400% compared to a couple of years ago

Why the Problem Isn’t Over

Even though prices have dipped slightly, the bigger issue hasn’t gone away.

  • Memory is still far more expensive than it used to be
  • Supply is still tight
  • Experts think the situation could take another 1–2 years to fully settle

In other words:

Prices have stopped getting worse — but they’re not back to normal.

What “Easing” Actually Means

It’s important to understand this clearly:

  • ❌ It does NOT mean RAM is cheap again
  • ❌ It does NOT mean the shortage is fixed
  • ✅ It DOES mean prices are no longer rising quickly
  • ✅ It MAY mean slow improvements over time

Think of it like this:

The market has gone from “out of control” to “holding steady”

What This Means for You

If you’re not very technical, here’s the simple takeaway:

If you need a PC now:

  • You’re no longer buying at the absolute worst time
  • But you’re still paying higher-than-normal prices for RAM

If you can wait:

  • There’s a chance prices could drop another 10–30% over time
  • But it likely won’t be a quick fix

Final Verdict

So, is the RAM crisis easing?

Yes — but only slightly.

  • Some prices have fallen a bit (around 10–20%)
  • The huge spikes seem to have stopped
  • But overall costs are still much higher than normal

Bottom line:

At the time of positing this article, the crisis isn’t over — it’s just starting to cool down.

At Direct Computers we aim to keep on top of our pricing especially for our gaming builds. We are just as keen for this situation to get better so we can pass any future savings on to our customers.
