Who are Cisco?
Attributed as integral to the growth of Silicon Valley, Cisco is a giant of networking hardware and software, telecommunications equipment and many other services and support. They specialise in such things as domain security and videoconferencing. Their products and services focus on three market segments: enterprise and service provider, small business and the home. Meaning that if you're connected to the internet, you've likely come across Cisco.
Cisco's origins
Founded in 1984 by Leonard Bosack and Sandy Lerner, two Stanford university employees who had been instrumental in connecting computers at Standford. The concept of a local area network (LAN) was actually pioneered by Bosack and Lerner during their time at Stanford. From the time the company went public in 1990, it had a market capitalisation of $224 million, and as of December, Cisco reported a market capitalisation of around $267 billion. During the height of the dot-com bubble in the mid to late 1990s, Cisco had become the most valuable company in the world.
These days, Cisco offer just about anything from helping companies with their hybrid workers, to creating a digital society that works for everyone.
