Christmas 2026: Why You Should Order Your New PC Early This Year

Christmas Buying Guide 2026

Why You Should Order Your Christmas PC Early This Year

Planning a new gaming PC, desktop or workstation for Christmas? With changing component prices, stock availability and busy build schedules, getting organised early could make all the difference.

Our advice? Don't leave your Christmas PC until December.

Christmas is one of the busiest times of the year for buying technology. Whether you're treating yourself, surprising a family member or investing in a new computer for work, there are some important things to consider before placing your order in 2026.

At Direct Computers, we want you to get the PC you're looking for, at the right price, with enough time to enjoy it over Christmas. Here's why we recommend starting your search early.

🎄 Planning a PC for Christmas Day?

October and early November are sensible times to get your plans in place. Build times, component availability and delivery schedules can change as demand increases, so ordering earlier gives you more breathing room.

01

PC Component Prices Are Changing

One of the biggest things to consider this year is the changing cost of PC components. Graphics cards, memory (RAM) and storage are essential parts of almost every modern computer, and their prices can fluctuate considerably.

Demand for computing hardware, including the infrastructure used for artificial intelligence, is putting pressure on parts of the supply chain. Changes in manufacturing costs, availability and supplier pricing can also affect the cost of the components used in custom PCs.

When the cost of components increases, manufacturers and retailers may need to adjust their prices. That means the price of a particular PC configuration today may not necessarily be the same closer to Christmas.

💡 Why does buying early matter?

If you've found a PC that meets your requirements and fits your budget, ordering earlier may help you secure the configuration at its current price, subject to stock availability and the terms of your order.

Of course, prices can move in either direction, and we can't guarantee that every component will become more expensive. However, it's worth considering the current market conditions rather than assuming today's prices will still be available in December.

02

Popular Components Can Sell Out

Finding the right components is just as important as finding the right price. Not every processor, graphics card, motherboard or memory kit is available in unlimited quantities.

Some models are more popular than others, and availability can change quickly when demand increases. If a particular component becomes unavailable, an alternative may be needed, potentially affecting the price, specification or time required to complete your system.

What types of PC could be affected?

  • Gaming PCs featuring popular NVIDIA GeForce RTX or AMD Radeon graphics cards.
  • High-performance systems with enthusiast AMD Ryzen processors.
  • Custom builds with specific cases, cooling systems or RGB lighting.
  • Professional workstations for video editing, 3D rendering and demanding workloads.
  • Business and home PCs with particular memory, storage or connectivity requirements.

Ordering early gives you more opportunity to choose the specification you actually want, rather than having to compromise because a preferred component is no longer available.

03

Custom PC Builds Take Time

A custom-built PC isn't simply taken off a shelf and placed into a box. Your system needs to be assembled, configured and tested before it's ready to leave us.

At Direct Computers, our standard custom PC build time is typically 7–11 working days. This can vary depending on the specification, component availability and our current workload.

As Christmas approaches, more customers begin ordering new computers. That means more systems need to be built, checked, prepared and dispatched during an already busy period.

⏱️ Remember: build times are measured in working days.

Weekends and bank holidays can affect the overall calendar time. If your PC needs to be ready for Christmas Day, allow time for the build, testing and delivery rather than working backwards from the last possible date.

An order placed in October or early November gives you more breathing room than one placed shortly before Christmas. If you know what you want, there's little benefit in leaving everything until the busiest part of the year.

04

Avoid the Last-Minute Christmas Rush

We've all experienced it: Christmas suddenly feels much closer than expected, and there's still a long list of presents to buy.

Leaving a technology purchase until the last minute can make finding the right product more difficult. You might have a particular gaming PC in mind, a budget you're trying to stick to or a specific computer that someone has been asking for all year.

Ordering early gives you more time to:

  • Compare different PCs and specifications.
  • Choose the right system for your budget.
  • Ask questions and get advice before making a purchase.
  • Arrange delivery or collection at a suitable time.
  • Get your new PC set up and ready for Christmas.

Most importantly, you can tick another item off your Christmas shopping list without worrying about it during the final few days before the big day.

05

Should You Wait for Black Friday?

It's understandable to wonder whether waiting for Black Friday or another seasonal promotion could save you money.

Discounts can be worthwhile, but it's important to consider the whole picture rather than focusing on a particular date. A promotional price doesn't automatically mean a product will be cheaper than it is today.

Component prices, stock levels and the availability of specific configurations can all influence the options available to you. A deal on one system also doesn't necessarily translate into a lower price on a different specification.

If you've found a PC that meets your requirements and fits your budget, consider whether waiting is likely to benefit you. If you're interested in a particular offer, check its terms, availability and delivery estimates before ordering.

At Direct Computers, we offer systems for a range of budgets and requirements, alongside custom-built options for customers who want something more specific.

06

It's Not Just Gaming PCs

While gaming PCs are popular Christmas purchases, they're certainly not the only option. A new computer can be a fantastic gift for someone starting a new job, studying, working from home, creating content or simply replacing an ageing machine.

When Should You Order Your Christmas PC?

If you're planning to give a new PC this Christmas, we'd recommend starting your search as soon as possible.

  • October: Start Planning

Explore the available systems, decide on your budget and work out which specification suits your needs.

  • Early November: Get Your Order In

Finalise your choice and place your order early, allowing time for the build process and any changes in availability.

  • November: Check Your Build and Delivery Times

If you're still shopping, check the current lead time and available delivery or collection options before ordering.

  • December: Availability May Be More Limited

Custom build schedules and delivery options can become more constrained as Christmas approaches. Selected in-stock systems may be worth considering if you need a PC sooner.

These are general planning guidelines, not guaranteed order deadlines. Actual availability and delivery times depend on the system you choose and our workload at the time.

We can also arrange sales and collections outside our usual hours, including later appointments and weekends, subject to availability and prior arrangement. Get in touch with our team to discuss your requirements.

Your Christmas PC Starts with a Little Planning

A new PC is a significant purchase, and it's worth taking the time to get it right.

With component prices changing, certain parts becoming harder to source and custom-build schedules getting busier as Christmas approaches, ordering early is one of the simplest ways to give yourself more choice and reduce the risk of last-minute disappointment.

You don't need to spend a fortune to get a great computer, and you don't need to know everything about PC hardware before you start. Whether you have a complete specification in mind or simply know that someone needs a new computer, we're here to help you explore the options.
