Nvidia RTX 3080Ti: what to expect

Nvidia RTX 3080Ti: what to expect

The Nvidia RTX 3080Ti card will make 4k gaming both seamless available to users. It has got 12GB GDDR6X VRAM which makes it one of the highest performing mid-range cards on the market. It is not quite as powerful as the 3090 that currently would set you back £1400 but it is very much similar at a fraction of the price.

Nvidia RTX 3080Ti: what to expect

What is different between the 3090 and the 3080ti?

The main difference is the size of the cards, with the 3090 being a lot bigger than the 3080Ti. If you look at the 3080Ti and think that it is a lot smaller than the 3090, that is because the 3080Ti has been on a diet and has slimmed down for the summer. The main reason for this is because the 3080Ti has got thinner memory installed inside it which, gives it the appearance that it is a lot smaller however, if you look into the specifications of the card then it is basically the same.

What happened to this card?

At the start of the year the card was supposed to be released, but then it had to be put on hold because of the memory. It was originally going to have the GA102-250 but because of the stock demand of the 3090’s then they had to wait to release this card and they could only include the GA120-225.

This change in the memory does not affect the overall performance of the card as it is still incredibly fast even with gaming at 4k. However, in the future while new games require more and more memory, it may not be the best future proof card, although this is something the new 30 series cards have been critised for overall. During testing the 3090 came in at 93FPS in 4k and the 3080Ti came in at 91FPS that is only a difference of 2 FPS which is un-noticeable. This has been tested in the new Horizon Zero Dawn.

Now to the interesting part, look at how similar the 3080ti is to 3090.

Even the same take a look at the ROP ( retinopathy of prematurity) they are exactly the same. The main difference between these 2 cards is the price tag. Comparing these 2 cards there is a £350 price difference which is definately worth it if you are looking to upgrade.

Should I upgrade?

Just by seeing how similar this card is to the 3090 I would say that you should defiantly upgrade as it is basically just as powerful the 3090 with a fraction of the price. If you have got a 3080 right now and are unsure to if you should upgrade or not, then think about it as buying a 3090 just a lot cheaper.
